Beer and Dog Lovers Find Nirvana in Newport

NEWPORT, OR, (Rogue Wire Service) - Rogue Ales Brewery will host the 2nd Annual Brewer’s Memorial Ale Fest on May 16-17th in Newport, OR in honor of Brewer, our revered Chairman and resident black lab who passed away in May 2006. The largest dog-friendly beer festival in the world, this year’s event will include 50+ microbreweries, live music, local seafood, and dog-inspired entertainment. Proceeds from the event will benefit local animal charities like Oregon Coast Therapy Animals and the Central Coast Humane Society.

Held inside the Rogue brewery where Brewer grew up, dogs can participate in Doggie Musical Chairs, Dog Dancing, and Celebrity Dog Look-alike contests. Canines can also browse dog food, dog accessories, and specialty doggie beer. Outside, volunteers will host a dog washing station within a fenced dog run area overlooking the scenic Yaquina Bay.

Over 50 world class microbrews from across the country will be poured including Allagash, Amnesia, Bear Republic, Calapooia, Caldera, Diamond Knot, Dogfish Head, Eugene City Brewery, Fish, Georgetown, Issaquah Brewhouse, Lagunitas, Laurelwood, McMenamin’s, Lighthouse, Pelican, Rogue Ales, Sierra Nevada, Siletz, Skagit River, Standing, Stone, Steelhead, Max’s Fanno Creek, Wakonda, Ninkasi, and more.

Non-canines will enjoy tours of the Rogue Brewery’s new brew system and the unveiling of John Maier’s 2008 batch of Brewer Ale. The House of Spirits, Rogue’s craft distillery located next door to the brewery, will also offer tours and tastings of its award-winning spirits like Spruce Gin and Hazelnut Spice Rum.

The festival will also showcase crafts from local artisans, cuisine from area restaurants like Mo’s and Local Ocean, and live music. This year’s line-up features hometown favorites Ty Curtis Band, Whiskey Robbers, HooDoo Johnson, and Whiskey Puppy.

A charity raffle will include a Rogue-inspired Beach Cruiser and a custom Brewdawg surfboard shaped by legendary shaper Steve Swan.

Entry to this 21+ event is $10 which includes a souvenir mug and five free taster tokens. Dogs get in free when accompanied by a human. Rogue Ales Brewery is located on the Yaquina Bay at 2320 OSU Drive, Newport, OR 97365. Festival hours are Friday, 4-10pm and Saturday, 12-10pm. For more details, go to www.brewersalefest.com.
